Meet Our Team
David H. Battle, J.D.*, CLTC
David Battle is a Partner of Meritage Financial Strategies, LLC. He focuses his time primarily on wealth preservation. David works closely with Meritage’s clients on developing estate planning strategies. He is particularly passionate about long-term care planning and the importance of these intergenerational discussions within families. David is Certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC).
David has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Vermont Law School. David spent almost 20 years with HSBC, one of the world’s largest financial institutions. During this period David’s business activities took him overseas to Europe, Africa and the Middle East where he arranged finance and investments for private and public sector clients.
David lives in Suffield, CT with his wife, Evelyne, and daughter, Katherine. He is active in the leadership of his church and the community-service activities of Rotary International.
Stephen P. Mastroianni, CPA*
Stephen Mastroianni is the Director of Financial Planning Operations. He is responsible for coordinating the implementation and monitoring of all financial plans for Meritage’s clients. Steve ensures that our clients remain organized and efficient.
Steve is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with both a BS and MS in accounting. He began his career in public accounting with Arthur Andersen as an auditor, followed by seven years spent in the financial services industry. At The Hartford and Hartford Investment Management Company, he was responsible for managing the financial reporting of the company’s retirement products and investments.
Steve lives in West Hartford with his wife, Lindsay, and their son, Landon. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and is an avid sports enthusiast.
Brett T. Wentzell, CFP®
Brett Wentzell is the Managing Partner of Meritage Financial Strategies, LLC. He is responsible for overseeing the development of all the financial plans of Meritage’s clients. He and Stephen work together to design and monitor tax-efficient investment programs and to integrate these portfolios with the client’s overall financial plans.
Brett is a graduate of Babson College with a double major in economics and finance. He previously worked in strategic finance roles for Travelers, Citigroup, and MetLife. His work included evaluating life insurance, annuity, and pension products on the basis of profitability, risk management, competitive positioning, and consumer value. Leading the financial planning & analysis function for Citigroup’s international life insurance company, Brett gained global experience in different markets, products, and distribution models.
Brett lives in South Glastonbury with his fiancée, Wheatley. They have three dogs and greatly enjoy the outdoors, golfing, hiking, biking, and kayaking.
